The dead bodies do not count in that way! by Hache Holguín

The past year, 2011 I did for the author Mary Daza Orozco and the imprint Libros & Letras, the cover of the book The dead bodies do not count in that way!, A book very hard which tells the story of a group of persons seeking the bodies of their relatives assassinated by any of the many dark forces which sadly living in Colombia.

The idea of the cover was the result of more or less two days of thinking and sketching, itrefers to one of the many passages of history in which family members searching for their loved ones in the river, waiting to fall bodies that murderers tend to throw water on the cover the dead are represented by the drops of blood falling to the river, amid the flowers that are about the only way to dismiss the dead.

This is the cover illustration and cover over.

In this link you can read an interview with the author, where it has details of the story.

In September of 2011 Libros & Letras celebrated ten years of his cultural project and commissioned me to do the cover of the anniversary edition. The idea of the illustration mixes some elements that have to do with literature, but also with children, I tried to vary a bit looking for my color palette come up with something more contemporary and lively.

This is the result of  Libros & Letras illustration Anniversary.

Illustration and design. Tras la huella del Almirante by Hache Holguín

This is one of the works of this 2011 which I needed to show in my blog, it is the work of illustration and cover art for the book Tras la huella del Almirante. The case Arango Bacci by the writer, journalist and friend Hernando De la Rosa. About this work are many things to tell the story of the book is so interesting and complex as the cover illustrationtried to show many symbolic elements. The book Tras la huella del Almirante. The case Arango Bacci has led the process against the Admiral Arango Bacci, a theme sounded fairly in the media, who was accused of involvement in drug trafficking, the book tells how the process was full of intrigue false evidence one of them is a fingerprint that was found in a document that would seem to Arango Bacci, and that false evidence was instrumental in the process of proving the innocence of the Admiral, hence the title of the book.

The concept of the cover is based on the amount of press that was the case when he was arrested Arango Bacci and little press that gave the verdict of acquittal by the Supreme Court, so I turn to the message in the bottle as a way of showing the difficulties of the clear the name of a person unjustly incriminated. Inside the bottle, a paper boat where there's the photo of Arango Bacci and a fingerprint, referring to the trace evidence was found to be false. In addition, the bottle has a broken part and the element that breaks is the symbol of Opus Dei, because apparently the enemies of the Admiral were on top of that religion.

In this project I was charged to do the cover illustration and cover design complete, it shows pictures of the final cover, full illustration, some details of it and the cover end.

Design. Redes sociales para todos by Hache Holguín

Another book cover design work, this time I did more design and less illustration, was an interesting job and I enjoyed because of my closeness to the networks and blogs. The book is called Redes sociales para todos, su negocio en la web 2.0, written by reporter Ana Maria Jaramillo. I share some details of the inlay work and comments on the back of the book, you can follow the author on twitter at @anamjaramillo or visit her blog www.twitterparatodos.blogspot.com

Another illustration and design work I did in May was that the book Antígona y Creonte, Rebeldía y estado en Colombia,.author Roland Anrup. The book is a brief drive, and crude depth study on violence in Colombia, and sadly some incredible passages, killing, indifference and oblivion.

The cover has many elements, above a messianic figure, walking on water, an element symbolizing tyranny and replacing his head, his legs are built by other elements that represent the anonymity of many victims, under the water is part of the people displaced with the mouth cells, prisoners of their enforced silence, around these and the background is texture of newsprint, mixed with an evocation of a frieze, with reference to Greek mythology but with some pre-Columbian elements, which I interested symbolize the antiquity of violence in our country.

The book Antígona y Creonte, Rebeldía y estado en Colombia. is to hard to read but necessary, some people say that the author takes a position but still is good to read thoughts of foreign scholars on the national reality.

In May 2011 I was working on some illustrations and cover designs for books, work which I love because it has quite the opportunity to propose and explore conceptually and technically, one of them was Días de Rojo, author María Elena Lavaud (@melavaud), the book was published in Venezuela and the idea was to do the editing for Colombia, which means that there was already a first cover and that meant the same pose on the cover a different idea to that of the first edition.

Días de Rojo is complex issues, current and interesting, is on one hand the political issue, as the story unfolds in the days of the 1992 coup in Venezuela by Hugo Chavez, a character in the novel is called Sanchez, parallel to the political everyday is a story with love, heartbreaks, dreams and ambitions, the search for a quiet morning with the right person in a supportive environment.

Those who know a little of my style and my work know that I am not good at work and clear text, I prefer to play with images, meanings and reinvent mix, in the case of the covers of books I always think of two moments in front of the book before read and after reading it, I like the cover subtly invite you to discover what the book and the story, but that is also the review of the back, so I'm more interested in the second stage, when the reader closes after reading the book, he turns around and discover elements on the face of history. So what I tried to communicate was a false dawn, the sun promised to disappoint, after the beret is a hidden, very hidden, the watering of red illusions and hopes of each of the inhabitants of a country and each personal story darkens .

The writer and journalist María Elena Lavaud has a blog of her book, there is additional data, comments and Días de Rojo developments, a book that really worth knowing, read, enjoy and live.
